History of the Hotel Forsthaus Nuremberg-Fuerth

Construction of the Hotel Forsthaus

The Hotel Forsthaus was built at the end of the 1970s by entrepreneur Max Grundig. The entrepreneur Max Grundig (born May 7, 1908 in Nuremberg; died December 8, 1989 in Baden-Baden) was the founder and owner of the electronics group of the same name, Grundig AG in Fürth.

He was one of the most important economic pioneers of the Federal Republic of Germany and, as an honorary citizen of Fürth, lived for many years on the top floor of the Hotel Forsthaus. At that time, his spacious and well-guarded apartment served Max Grundig as protection from the RAF.

Forsthaus today

The history of Max Grundig can still be experienced today. For example, it is possible to hold exclusive events or conferences in the building's historic "Max Grundig Library".

Residence for Max Grundig

Grundig himself initially had a private villa, the so-called Grundig Villa, built in Fürth-Dambach in 1967. The hotels in the other cities often served Grundig as interim residences for business trips and short vacations. Although Grundig's main residence was still registered in his villa in Dambach from the beginning of 1978, he actually moved to the newly completed Hotel Forsthaus at the end of 1977. The reason for the move was the potential threat to the entrepreneur as a supposed kidnap victim by the Red Army Faction (RAF) at the time. Although he had already had a nuclear bunker and Panicroom installed in his villa, Grundig preferred to move permanently into the two upper floors of the hotel in the street Zum Vogelsang from late 1977 / early 1978 instead

To this end, he subsequently had his own elevator and several surveillance cameras, including structural security measures, installed on the upper floors. Some of these installations are still in place today (as of 2018), although they are no longer in operation - with the exception of the elevator. Grundig himself owned a suite on the 5th floor with several rooms and his own bathroom with a green artificial stone bathtub, which is also still preserved. His wife Chantal Grundig and his security staff/nanny each lived opposite his suite in their own small rooms. On the 4th floor, which could be reached directly from the 5th floor via a spacious spiral staircase, there was a large fireplace and meeting room - with an adjoining kitchen. Today, these rooms are used for events and meetings. Some of the furnishings have been retained in their original condition, a deliberate decision by the new hotel management.

In May 2009, the end of Quelle AG was discussed and decided by the owners and investors in the meeting rooms on the 4th floor.

Re-opening 2018

Formerly run as the Grundig Hotel, the Forsthaus changed operators several times. Since mid-January 2018, the current operator has been ready to continue running the hotel. Without much notice, the hotel reopened, now under the name Hotel Forsthaus Nürnberg-Fürth, on January 26, 2018. The new hotel manager is Alexander Peters, son of a gastronomy family from Nuremberg, who had already completed his training as a hotel specialist with the Grundig Group at the Forsthaus Hotel.

New features and renovation works since 2018

Since the takeover from the previous operator in 2018, the hotel has been thematically realigned and brought back up to date with renovations and refurbishments to the lobby, restaurants and spa area. From 2020 to 2021, the Comfort rooms were completely renovated, the entire bathrooms were refurbished and air conditioning was installed. In the adjoining building, the Cozy rooms and junior suites were given a facelift as well as new bathrooms. In addition, the spa area was expanded to include a fitness room and the Forst hairdresser was launched.

Since 2023, the luxurious suite ensemble on the former executive floor of the hotel has shone in new splendor.
